AMD Secures $1B U.S. Energy Deal for AI-Driven Supercomputers
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) shares climbed over 1% following news of a $1 billion partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop two cutting-edge supercomputers. The systems, dubbed Lux and Discovery, will leverage AMD's MI355X AI chips to accelerate breakthroughs in nuclear energy, cancer research, and national security.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright emphasized the transformative potential, stating the AI-powered infrastructure could RENDER currently lethal cancers 'manageable conditions' within five to eight years. The first system, Lux, is slated for deployment within six months through collaboration with HPE, Oracle Cloud, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
